Equal parts love and discipline
I wanted to share some wisdom-some of which I've shared before and seems worth repeating now. I learned this formula from my mother—a woman born during the 1918 flu pandemic, lived through the Great Depression and WW II and raised 7 children. When I asked her "secret" to good parenting she replied "equal parts love and discipline-and to discipline doesn't mean to scold, criticize or hit, but to be consistent". I thought this was a lovely and brilliant idea. I've tried to use this as a parent myself, as well as for my personal growth and have shared with clients...and so reworked it as "equal parts SELF-LOVE and SELF -DISCIPLINE.
I struggle with both, they don't come easily to me, I've had some big traumas in my life - but I try each day to do one act of self-love/care and to do one thing each day that requires consistency.
Today, these have been 20 minutes of my meditation (both categories checked!), and my self-love act has been to ask for help from a family member. Both of these things made me feel calmer, safer and more available to my teen daughter who I'm quarantined with so that's super important right now!
Special offers
As many of you know, I'm a one-woman business. This collective experience around COVID-19 has hit us all pretty hard, some more than others. The most important thing is keeping healthy for all. My work has always been in person, however I've been able to continue work with some of my clients either online or "socially distant" outdoors. If you're a current client and have the need, I'm offering a sliding scale for sessions during quarantine-and the same goes for anyone receiving my emails who would like to begin to do some strength training or HIIT workouts, Vinyasa Yoga or Yin Yoga sessions. Yin Yoga is especially useful now.
Lastly, if you or anyone you know is a frontline healthcare worker and they are in need of some relaxing yoga or meditation support, I am offering those services free of charge. Email me to get the ball rolling!
One day-at-a-time, one hour-at-a-time - while finding some stillness and some gratitude for the little things we have is how we can get through this! Oh, and with music.... check out my "Stayin' in" playlist on SPOTIFY
